The world as you know it is a lie.
Vampires, Weres, and Demons are real. They've been around for centuries, hidden within the shadows. They were remarkably content with that way of life until one vampire, Katrina Sever, sought to bring their existence into the light. She searched for a place, for all who wish it, to live together in peace.
She found a town abandoned, buildings dilapidated, cut off from the major surrounding cities. Katrina went to the Vampire Council to make a request for the acquisition of the property and laid her plans out before them. They were reluctant at first but as she spoke of independence and influence many saw wisdom in Katrina’s words and wanted to act on this rare opportunity before this too passed them by. Katrina offered them a life of freedom, without the need to skulk from the mortal masses and they savored the potential her proposition held.
With the councils blessing it was then that she, with a small group of other vampires, made themselves known to the world. The idea was simple, to create a place for the vampires that wished to lead an open and relatively normal life. When the Vampires outed their existence to the world they also inadvertently outed the other supernatural races of the world.
The Weres were left with no choice in the matter, once the Vampires became a reality for humans, questions popped up about other races as well. They had preferred their quite sequestered life, but many saw this as an opportunity for change and as it was becoming harder and harder to stay concealed many headed for Hyland and hoped it would be the sanctuary they were promised.
The demons, on the other hand, were not amused and their council was angered by this sudden exposure to the human world. When they came to Hyland they came to watch it burn.
While finalizing the deal with the humans who owned the small town, a small group of them wished to have permission to reside in the town as well. Leaders from each race were chosen to help their kind co-exist with the other races.
Two years have passed and the town is ready to open its arms to the races of the world, but already trouble has arisen for the fledgling town of Hyland. The four races are not properly represented. The Were Leader, one Lucas Marx, has fled. His devious plot to embezzle the town's funds went up in smoke and rather then face the music, he ran off with his proverbial tail between his legs. To make matters worse the Council members representing both the Humans and the Demons have mysteriously disappeared.
Will the town fail? Will the Weres find another leader just as the demons instigate hostility between the other races? And what does the existence of the supernatural races mean to the rest of the world?
